Last week I wrote about the first of five things we would give focus and priority to if CPC could only do 5 things. If you missed #1, you can read it here. Let me share the second with you this week.
2) Develop Worshippers (not just "singing on Sunday!")
So often when Christians hear or use the word "worship" we find ourselves meaning something to do with Sundays and singing. And while singing together on Sundays is biblical and valuable, it's merely part of what worship truly is.
Being a worshipper means loving God meaningfully and with our everyday lives. Being a worshipper means loving His Word and learning to live in consistency with its narrative and truth. Being a worshipper means serving others. I want the people of CPC to know that those who help a busy single mom change her oil, or help an elderly couple in the church with a home repair to know that their actions are as much worship to God as singing and lifting hands, if not more!
And of course, being a worshipper includes a dedication to gathering on Sundays and reciting words of truth and adoration to God in song, beautifully and passionately.
So, when you pick up your Bible this week, when you patiently love your child when they are being difficult, when you look to God for strength to deny a temptation, when you hand out Halloween candy, and when you hum along under a mask on another pandemic Sunday - you are worshipping Jesus.
Jesus says in John 4.23 that our Father is "seeking worshippers." Let's be the kind He's looking for!
