"ONE THING I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in
His temple." Psalm 27.4
At a surface level it might seem that the psalmist has turned his opportunity for one thing into a request for three (dwell, gaze, seek). Bravo, psalmist, you've fared so much better than Holland's simpleton! However, the psalmist has not turned one request into three; they are all one. He requests one thing: to know God more intimately.
Wouldn't you love to know God more meaningfully too? I mean, honestly, if you could only ask for one thing, wouldn't that be it? Knowing God in a more vivid and alive way is more important than all the things - health, family, resources, possessions, traits, abilities. It's THE one thing.
This is why we're preparing to go into 21 Days of Fasting & Prayer together as a church. It's our declaration to ourselves, each other, and to God, that the priority of priorities in 2022 is Jesus. You want to be so much closer to His heart. And so do I.
A few things about fasting & this fast:

  • We will be fasting from Monday, Jan 10 through Sunday, Jan 30 (21 days)
  • The fast will culminate in an All Church Worship & Prayer Service on Sunday, Jan 30 at 6.30 pm at CPC
  • Prepare to fast from something(s) that will matter to you. The goal is not about challenging, pushing, or punishing yourself, however, it is about making noticeable subtractions so that you have more time for God daily.
  • Fasting should serve as a reminder to your whole self, of your priority of priorities for 2022.
  • If you are making any kind of considerable dietary subtractions for the 21 days please consider consulting with your doctor.
  • Make intentional plans that will help your attention and affections to be set on Jesus in special ways for these 21 days. Consider introducing new prayer habits, and/or taking on some extra Bible reading.

What will this look like for you?
Let's set our focus on ONE THING: Jesus!
"My heart says of you, "Seek His face!"
Your face, Lord, I will seek."
Psalm 27.8
That's so much better than a milkshake. Or three.
