Phew...we made it through 2020! What a surprising ride it was. Some surprises were wonderful, while many others (ahem...panedemic) sprung up quickly and change was thrust upon us. I want to remind you that God was true to His nature of Faithfulness through the whole year.
The book of Lamentations uses poetry to teach us to acknowledge surprise, pain, sadness and grief. It reminds us to look to God and bring our real feelings to Him. And in the healthy processing of feelings with God, we find true hope.
Consider this great portion from Chapter 3:
19-20 "I remember my affliction and wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me."
Then, a turning point of sorts:
21 "Yet I call this to mind and therefore I have hope:"
And what is called to mind?
22-23 "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!"
Today as we celebrate the turning of a calendar, I want you to have a turning point too and call God's steadfast love and faithfulness to mind. More than ever before, we can confidently say we don't know what 2021 will hold. BUT, we know this for certain: God's love is secure and His faithfulness is absolute.
I've got reason to believe 2021 could be a great year; I hope you do too.
Hold on to Jesus as He holds onto you,
Pastor Mike
