One of my favourite Old Testament chapters is Deuteronomy 8. I have lines and words underlined all throughout its 20 verses. I love seeing God's intentions and desires revealed throughout its words.
Among the many vibrant themes you might discover when you read Deuteronomy 8 next (why not today?), is a motif of God's nature as Provider and Source.
Last Sunday in our "Prayer is NOT Powerful" series, we explored how giving THANKS is an essential ingredient in prayer. Consider these offerings from Deuteronomy 8:
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise (interchangeable with the word 'thank') the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God
vs 10-11You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth
vs 17-18
Giving thanks is an essential spiritual discipline! It has the potential to be both an overflowing response, and an intentional choice and habit.
Last week I found this video enlightening, as I considered my own personal practice of giving thanks: https://youtu.be/b5K-TxlSldY I'd encourage you to take a few minutes to watch it.
Looking forward to seeing you ...well, seeing a camera!...and you seeing me... this Sunday as we continue our 21 Day Journey in Prayer.
Pursue God's heart with gratitude today!
